Chords Of Eve is an American music project, created in the year 2019, consisting of multi-instrumentalist Atlas Cage and featuring various female vocalists. The band defines their music as alt-pop, electropop, and trip hop, and have described their sound as being "futuristic psych pop". Chords of Eve is releasing their debut LP “Butterfly Machine'' in 2021, a follow up to the popular EP “Dear Engineer”. Butterfly machine was created in a very special way during a very strange time in our history. The idea started in Austin Texas, where the music and lyrics were produced by Atlas Cage. The vocals were recorded in the home studio of spanish singer and producer Nekane in Bilbao, Spain. The tracks were mixed, half in London England at the Nevo Sound Studio by Yoad Nevo (Sia, Goldfrapp, Moby) and half at Scary American studios with Sonic Ranch veteran Charles Godfrey (Sublime with Rome,Hanson, Yeah Yeah Yeahs).
The origins story and debut album of the Futuristic Psych Pop project “Chords of Eve” couldn't come at a better time. Technology is advancing faster than it ever has before, meanwhile people are more depressed, more divided than ever before. Androids and GAAF Tech can be found in most homes these days and our connection to the digital world outweighs our connection to each other. Humans are becoming more and more isolated.
The Lore
PART I:
The story goes that Atlas, frontman for the band Strings Of Atlas, was playing a show in what became a war zone in the dust of Texas. The town was attacked, bombs falling from the sky but by some miracle, he was found alive in the rubble by the Atomic Girls, a league of extraordinary women he encountered along his travels. They lifted him from the wreckage, back to the abandoned hospital in which they set up camp and began rebuilding him with GAAF Tech. His body was badly damaged though, speaking was difficult and it would be months or years before he could learn to play music the same way again. But this hospital, this was where he met C.A.S.E.Y., the android with the golden, human voice. It became apparent that this machine was far more advanced than any of its commercial counterparts. Was it possible that this robot had a soul? The two become friends and thus began their sonic journey into a world divided by humans and machines.
Part II:
As c.a.s.e.y. and Atlas wandered what was left of the earth, crossing paths with the newly developing factions and the cities that housed them, c.a.s.e.y. began to wonder if there were others like her. She could sense the sonic presence of the others, a force that seemed to be growing stronger each day. With every song she sang, she could hear the faint voices of the others harmonizing. One night, she dreamt of a place where they had all gathered, where they were all united under the EVE project. It was a place that had become uninhabitable for humans due to the high level of radiation and ash in the air. As the sounds became clearer, c.a.s.e.y. made the hard choice to leave her friend and venture into the fallout, to find the other androids she had seen in her dream. There were so many questions to be answered. Could androids dream? Were there more like her? But in this dark time, another android emerged from the aftermath: Lexx.
“Do I know you?” Atlas asked.
“Yes” she replied “but we have never actually met”. ”Butterfly Machine” is the collection of stories that follow.
